This was the conversion of a prefabricated class room with an upper floor sleep out.
The South west orientation & surrounding trees means the winter sun was an important issue to address. The new built form was limited by the existing use rights foot print, however , we have adjusted the roof form to follow the land rising up toward the North east. This not only was sympathetic to the landscape , but enable more solar heat gain.
Well placed skylights and a two storey void also assist for the sun to penetrate deep into the main living rooms.
The placement of the Fireplace within the main view orientation enables the furntire to be arranged easily, as well as creating a wall to park sun shade screens that are needed in the Late summer.
A new deck was formed ,that has been cut into the existing building form, to create protection from the sea breeze and the Main bedroom has been placed on the main living level behind large sliding doors.
This allows the House to remain flexible for the owners, when they are on their own.The upper floor has been planned with a Kitchenette & media room to accommodate the swell of family in the summer months.
