Richmond Road Cafe

The Opportunity to design from scratch a commercial Kitchen & café was presented to us, to work along side arguably one of New Zealand's most successful Café/restaurant operators, Hip Group.

This was the third project they were creating, that needed to address both fast turn around service along with an ability to serve high quality time managed cuisine for local business people & casual neighbours of Ponsonby/ Grey Lynn.

The Dining experience is divided by a long custom design double sided bench seat, that seperates the two service types, takeaway & fine dining.

Utilitarian finishes flow from the Kitchen to the front counter & food displays.A fold down screen has been developed to enclose the over glazed space the café inherited. A Gordon Walters Motif was adopted , laser cut into the dark stained screens, hinged to access window cleaning.

This has created a contemporary screen/ foil to the passing traffic.
